Relevance describes the extent to which two scientists share common research topics, based upon their known research products (publications, grants, patents).

For a given topic shared between two scientists, the extent to which scientist 1's research focuses on this topic will differ from that of scientist 2. This relative research focus is expressed in the Mindshare metric.
