ResearchScorecard.com relies on funding data derived from the following agencies:

  •  National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  •  National Science Foundation (NSF)
  •  US Department of Energy (DOE)

Grant proposals missing from the ResearchScorecard database can usually be traced to errors in the original grant description data, such as:

  •  Optical scanning errors
  •  Variable use of initials in the names of the investigators
  •  Missing or unavailable financial data
  •  Type of grant. For example, ResearchScorecard does not track grants issued for conference support. Similarly, older NIH SBIR grants tend to be absent.
